The Winix 5510 is worth considering for a properly sized room when remote app control adds a useful routine and you are comfortable buying its exact replacement filters. Start with the 392-square-foot AHAM reference, not the largest number in the listing. A coverage claim without its time interval is a poor buying comparison.

Winix’s 5510 specifications state an AHAM-verified 392-square-foot room rating at 4.8 air changes per hour, based on an eight-foot ceiling. Its larger 1,882-square-foot claim uses a one-hour interval. The same page lists 941 square feet in 30 minutes and 470 in 15 minutes. These statements are not equivalent recommendations for a continuously occupied room.
The published smoke CADR is 253 cubic feet per minute. Treat that as a rated comparison figure, not proof of the airflow you will get at a quiet night setting. Winix’s minimum noise figure concerns the slowest speed, and we did not measure it.
For a straightforward comparison, use the same rating basis on every candidate. One brand’s highest square-foot headline and another brand’s frequent-air-change rating should not be placed in the same column as if they described identical performance.

Plan for actual use and follow the current instructions rather than treating a calendar estimate as an unlimited-life warranty.
This is a separate filter purchase from advice for other Winix models. “Fits Winix” is insufficient. Save the part number with the appliance record, and check genuine-versus-compatible status and set contents on each offer.
The washable fine-mesh prefilter is another component. Its washability does not make every filter washable. Clean only the components approved for that process and allow them to dry as directed before reassembly.
A three-year ownership comparison
Use purchase price + replacement sets needed during the period + electricity. For a three-year window beginning with the supplied new filters, replacements at months 12 and 24 mean two additional annual sets, assuming that schedule suits the actual use. Earlier replacements increase the total.
If a purifier costs $200 and its genuine set costs $50, that example gives $300 before electricity. Those rounded figures illustrate the calculation and are not a price promise. Apply the same period and replacement assumptions to the competing purifier.
For electricity, use the power draw at your chosen mode if it is available: watts divided by 1,000, multiplied by annual operating hours and your tariff. Do not infer a measured running cost from an app feature or a maximum electrical rating.
